I suck at blogging so I’m going to #typeacon

Once the conference is over, I will have many more interesting things to say. (probably not really). But for now, the people I’ve met over the past 6 years through Social Media know me as Heather @stepfordlife. That came before @cupcrazed cupcakes and food network wars and crap.

So when you see me this weekend- it’s still me.

I now need to clean, shop, wrangle kids, finish building an 80s cake stand (post to come “wii” fans!) get 43 dozen cupcakes delivered, abuse my social media accounts, stalk a bunch of blogger hookers I love, and pick up the booze and snacks for drunken evenings with my girls.

Maybe I will be so inspired that I’ll blog during the conference?

Probably not, I will be packing a flask and be all consumed with twitter.

@stepfordlife

Where I keep my business outta my business. And swear a lot.

Don’t know what the hell I’m talking about?

http://typeaconference.com/

Once upon a time my blog was cute. I wrote funny things. I made fun of people. Then I opened a business and had to delete over 1/3 of my content as it pertained to things not deemed “stepford” worthy to certain people who tell me what I can and can’t do- (think landlords a la Auschwitz). Now it’s just crap. And I’m sorry. Maybe I’ll get better….

maybe.

Discovery Place’s Mixology

I was ridiculously excited to participate in a new event hosted by Discovery Place uptown.

I am always willing pair myself with a great business, and let’s be honest- Discovery Place should be offering my cupcakes in their snack shop. (obviously). Tricia  has a friend who works at DP, and she probably volunteered me before asking. Because she knows I’m not completely stupid.

Our station was GLOW. So the cupcakes glowed, yes they did!

It’s amazing what you learn on Google. Tonic glows because it contains quinine. We made lemon tonic cupcakes, half filled with blueberries and the others filled with raspberries to match our station partner FUZE who were debuting their newest drinks. Pretty amazeballs, right?

Our cupcakes were paired with those adorable FUZEtinis.

Yes, we tried ALL of the cocktails for quality control.

Here’s me with TPO. Volunteer me, I put you to work.

If you’d like to see her awesome Southern Spark write up http://www.thesouthernspark.com/2012/discovery-places-mixology-you-wish-you-were-there/

I also was able to meet the Brittany who blogs at A Healthy Slice of Life (her glowing cake pic is way better!)

Doing this event was pretty sweet, we hooked up with Coca Cola for our next event… Vitamin Water!

Alive and Kicking. Somewhat. An update and our first charity cupcake.

I’m not gonna lie, this is NOT easy.

Nothing about starting this business has been easy. I work 7 days a week, open to close almost everyday. I don’t get to see my kids as much as I want. I don’t get to go anywhere when I feel like it. I’m exhausted 99.9% of the time.

Has it been worth it? Definitely.

Are we doing better than we had hoped? Most definitely.

Do people blow us away everyday? You better believe it.

Dont think for a second I didn’t have to increase my antidepressants, don’t cry from pure exhaustion, don’t wonder “what the hell was I thinking?”, don’t doubt myself about the tiniest of details. I do all of the time. But this entire process is still nothing but rewarding, and it is true that hard work does pay off.

We can still stand by our product everyday and say we did our best. We don’t scrimp on details. We try to give back. The proof is in the pudding- we raised over $600 with our first charity cupcake this month. Our Purple Pawsibility cupcake fundraiser was a success thanks to the people who came in everyday asking for the purple cupcakes with the little dog bone on top.

Feeling warm and fuzzy yet? Here is their website http://www.humanesocietyofyorkcounty.org/ feel free to keep on donating so our homeless animals can find a new place to live.

All of the dishes, cups, and some of the shop decor was bought at our Humane Society Thrift store http://pawsibilitiesthriftshop.com/ You should see the ridiculously adorable mini creamers we found to use as milk creamers last week. You can also find adorable items on etsy: http://www.etsy.com/shop/SHERMANCAT

These are the kind of things that reward us after tons of busting ass. And yes, we also reward ourself on Wednesday night by heading over to Fish Market for gumbo and a martini after a looooooong day.

Cheers!

March 15th Charlotte Tweetup @cupcrazed

A year and a half ago was the first Charlotte tweet up. A bunch of us went, and had a totally awesome time. It was a way to meet, greet and mingle with some of the most social media savvy peeps in town. About six months later, I hosted the second Charlotte Bakeoff, which was awesome and of course a panel of local twitter judges and local twitter bakers. Many of those people were the same ones pushing me to open a bakery, and supporting my “hobby” while I was trying to figure out what I wanted to do when I grew up.

Fast forward a year. Exactly a year after the bakeoff, my bakery- @cupcrazed is hosting the March Charlotte Tweetup. We are totally pumped, and getting ready to thank all of our amazing local supporters. Want to come too? Check updates later this week through their webpage http://cltweetup.com/ or follow them on twitter @CLTweetup for details. Tickets will be limited, so hurry your ass up and sign up!

Coca Cola Cupcakes!

I figured the best way to try what “should” be a no fail recipe is to go to that website if it’s something, well, different.

I had a request for Coca Cola cupcakes, and found this no fail recipe at the coke site:

http://www.thecoca-colacompany.com/heritage/recipes.html

Cake:

2 cups sugar

2 cups all-purpose flour

1 1/2 cups small marshmallows

1/2 cup butter or margarine

1/2 cup vegetable oil

3 tablespoons cocoa

1 cup Coca-Cola®

1 teaspoon baking soda

1/2 cup buttermilk

2 eggs

1 teaspoon vanilla extract

Frosting:

1/2 cup butter

3 tablespoons cocoa

6 tablespoons Coca-Cola

1 box (16 ounces) confectioners’ sugar

1 teaspoon vanilla extract

1 cup chopped pecans

Preheat oven to 350 degrees. In a bowl, sift sugar and flour. Add marsh- mallows. In

saucepan, mix butter, oil, cocoa, and Coca-Cola. Bring to a boil and pour over dry

ingredients; blend well. Dissolve baking soda in buttermilk just before adding to

batter along with eggs and vanilla extract, mixing well. Pour into a well-greased 9-

by-13-inch pan and bake 35 to 45 minutes. Remove from oven and frost

immediately.

To make frosting, combine butter, cocoa and Coca-Cola in a saucepan. Bring to a

boil and pour over confectioners’ sugar, blending well. Add vanilla extract and

pecans. Spread over hot cake. When cool, cut into squares and serve.

published by The Junior League of Atlanta.
