Quick Husband Brag! My new garden.

I asked Bob to build me a raised bed to grow a salsa garden, and wa-la! He built this in 3 hrs!

He’s super handy when he wants to be! It’s built into the slope next to the driveway, 4×6. Now if the weather would just shape up I could get started. (and maybe I can talk him into doing the sandbox….)

Baking Mess Up #316

We were going to a friend’s for dinner Friday and I was dying for Key Lime Pie. I bought everything, prepared the pie, and was going to top it with meringue. The consistency was never quite right, but I just slapped it on anyway and headed out. We finish eating dinner, I slice the first piece of pie still wondering why the stupid meringue doesn’t look right. I took a little swipe, a lick, OH DEAR GOD. When I labelled everything in my pantry, I mixed up the salt and the sugar. So I was stuck with a Key Lime Salt Whipped Pie. My mom is still laughing at me, she took a taste to be funny and said, “it tastes like a margarita!”. Yeah, FUNNY.

Naughty Mommies Mommy Fail Friday

Naughty Mommies
Are bloggers who proudly identify as “bad moms” challenging ideals of motherhood or reinforcing them? Kara Jesella April 3, 2009

I laughed all of the way through this article. First of all, Kara is a high school friend! (hi Kara!)

And even though she isn’t married with kids, she has clearly picked up on the strange, quirky world of mommy bloggers. I make no bones about popping lithium with my birth control, and sneaking into the bathroom to eat the last Cadbury Egg so I don’t have to share with my 2 yr old. So check out her article because she’s also talking about YOU.

cupcakes, cupcakes, cupcakes!?!?!?!

The bake sale Bonanza is on!

Twice a year Brinn’s preschool does a bake sale fundraiser. I blogged in the fall about all of the pies I made for before Thanksgiving, so this Easter I did cupcake baskets and bags of cut outs!

I bought cupcake papers with bunnies on them $1, snack bags were .29 cents each (8), Michael’s had photo boxes on sale 3 for $5 and I recycled the Easter Baskets that the Easter Bunny left here last year.

The yellow cupcakes above are lemon, and the white are almond.
Bunnies with marizpan noses. I’m not a huge frosting fan on cut outs so I go light.

Ducks with marzipan beaks

Tulips, and those are the cookie bags

Brinn did her own cupcake

Maeve taste-tested

and the final product, treats in boxes

and baskets

I was up until 1am because my sugar buzz was out of control
