How does your garden grow?

We asked Brinn what she wanted to do for her 5th birthday, and she said she wanted to plant a garden. I don’t know if she saw it on television or what, but that’s what she said.

“I want to plant a garden with seeds and flowers and stuff.”

Lowe’s had some veggies on a clearance rack that we’re $1 or $2 each.

She was obsessed with the seeds.

“Awe, dis one is dead!” (pouty face)

We found those cute little flower pots in the garage from a science project Bryce did when he was in middle school.

Yes, I made her do most of the work. A new take on Little House on the Prairie, of sorts.

we made sure to label everything so when the weeds take over, we’ll be able to recognize what should be growing there.

the end product!

My roses are bloomin’!

Last fall I was in Lowe’s and found a sad, pathetic excuse for a climbing rose bush on the clearance table for a few bucks. It had one little shriveled up rose on it that looked more like a white carnation than a rose. I brought it home, haphazardly dug a hole and hoped for the best.

Here it is six months later! I’m like a rose whisperer or something.

A Very Hungry Caterpillar Stayed!

Brinn, Shaye and I have been mesmerized by these caterpillars! Every morning after breakfast we head onto the porch to check them out, but on this particular morning there was only one caterpillar munching away on the last nub of parsley.

We went over to another flower box on my porch, low and behold we found this lazy guy! I admit, we’re super excited he stuck around and decided to do his thing in a potted geranium!

Our Swallowtail caterpillar is on the road to being a butterfly!

Chrysalis

Day 1 of his pupa, supa dupa!

I’m so mad I forgot to take a picture yesterday for day 2!

But here is day 3:

Where’d my parsley go???

See anything?

wait……a minute

Very hungry Caterpillars!

Tons of them, everywhere!

When you realize your flower box is technically infested, you want to google it to make sure that they won’t eat or poison my kids. So I did some researching….

Black Swallowtails!

Very fitting, I think one of these is tattoo’d on my back!

It makes me want to run out and plant parsley everywhere!
