I’ve been totally sidetracked by swine flu fears and Disney.

Stepford has been shaken hard by the FLYING PIG. Swine flu is spreading faster than zombie-ism in Sean of the Dead, and I’ve been a paranoid lunatic lately because we are going to Disney and you know what that means….all of those stupid things you pre-pay for are paid for and OH MY GAWD if someone catches H1N1 we can’t go!

I’ve doused myself with enough Wild Honeysuckle anti-bacterial hand gel that I could probably disinfect a hospital just by walking through it.
Okay so this post has 3 purposes and I need YOUR help.
1. An excuse for why I am absent.
Getting ready for the trip.
2. I need Disney advice.
My girlfriend/neighbor dropped off some really helpful info and guides, but if you have a tip for being in the park with a 10, 3, and 1 yr old, let’s hear it! Please post a comment, tip, link anything that might help because I’m all ears.
3. Lowe’s has had its Christmas stuff up since early September, but why the HELL do they sell a $60 light up yard ornament of a FLYING PIG?
I started out by talking about swine flu of course but it makes me think of this ridiculous flying pig I took a picture of while shopping. Seriously, why would Lowe’s sell flying pigs for Christmas?
Thoughts?!

    Two things: 1. My best advice for going to the park with young children is hit the Magic Kingdom the minute they open, head straight for the little kids section ( Never, Never Land? Fairy Tale Land? Can't remember the name- whichever section has 'It's a Small World.'). If you get there as soon as they open, there are no lines and the little ones can ride to their hearts content.

    2. I have this pig thing. No, not swine flu, It's just an obsession with pig statues in my yard and I think that the 60$ pig would look really great there. Don't mock me. :)

  2. Heather says:

    No clue about the pig thing, but OMG we are going to Disney!!!!!!!! P.S. Swine Flu is not allowed!

    We go to Disney every year, I can't remember the name of the badge(fast pass, maybe?)but for a fee you can bypass the long lines and go straight to the front.

    With small kids it's totally worth the fee. I have a child in a wheelchair and if we had to wait in line she'd never get an accessible seat.

    We also never buy our souvenirs inside the park. There are a millions and three places outside the park that sale the same over priced must have for show-n-tell or I'll die item for less.

    Ditto what Jenny said go Early!

    Pack snacks, water, hand sanitizer, and sun screen! If one of your cutties is messy or in diapers, take a small blanket or towel into the park with you. Changing areas are limited and you may need something to put on the floor.

    We usually rent a stroller in the park and hang a bag on the back.

    Obvious advice I know but things I didn't think of the first go round.

    Hey! When are you going? We are going back for the second time in just a week & half. We were just there in Feb. with Liv (4) and Gemma (1) – {no we're not disney freaks, but there aren't many vacations options when ur prego, so we thought why not}

    Kids had a blast. My tips:

    Food: Do you have a food plan? Regardless – you can bring a soft sided cooler in- packed with lots of snacks & lunch (on the days we didn't do character meals) I HATE waiting in line for really bad food & snacks buy time when waiting in line for shows & such. (crayons & paper are good for line distractions also)

    Parades: Some say skip the parades- but my kids loved them & gave them a break.

    Rides: def. agree w/ jenny o. go straight for fantasy land when it opens. Toontown opens at 10- this is where you can meet the princess & fairies. Lines get long. For some reason fairy line was a 2 hr wait. {we went back at a different time}

    Fastpass: i think it's free if you stay on property- we didn't pay anything for it. It's great.

    Hollywood Studios: get fast pass for toy story & see the little mermaid show & then straight for playhouse disney across the way. the shows are timed for a short wait in-between the two. My kids LOVED the playhouse disney show.

    Agreed- blanket for diaper changing.

    Ok- i might sound like a disney freak. But really y'all will have a great time. I can't wait to go and i too am *oh so freaked out* about catching the flu beforehand too!

    Jenny, if I see you with the flying pig from Lowe's in your yard I WILL mock you!!
    QofE,thanks for the tips! Esp the souvenirs, my 10 yr old is the "stuff" collector.

    We aren't staying in the park so we we lose out on getting in really early and this fast pass thing, but we saved about $1000 thanks to Heather's dad and his condo! whoop whoop!
    Polkadot girls (one of ya!) We're going this month!

    Amy A gave me her guides and the best tip I read so far was to NOT do Magic Kingdom first because our little ones will be severely let down with Epcot. That makes so much sense!!

    I'm a tiny bit freaked today, my chest hurts and I have the start of a phlem cough, and Brinn is majorly buggary so we're staying home all day today and sucking down oj and resting. I'm hoping it's a side effect of fall (cool nights and windows open) because a tiny piece of me says that if we're sick, we're still going. ;)
    Heather & Sharri, bring your germ masks!

    Flying pig = unofficial mascot of Cincinnati. Makes sense to sell it here, but elsewhere I'm not sure.
