I’m getting quite a few hits for the costumes, so I thought I’d throw together an update.
This is where I am right now.
First and foremost, I am NOT a seamstress, nor do I pretend to be. I basically look at this like an art project. I take pictures I’ve seen of the costumes and I make it up. So when you see things looking messy, uneven, or chaotic- well, that’s what you get with me. Can I use a sewing machine? Yep, but I’m horrible. Can I sew by hand? Sure, but it’s what I learned in friggen high school Home Ec class, no judging me.

The Mad Hatter
The hat I made Friday cost me $8 as I blogged the other day.
Breakdown:
1. jacket vest, pants, skirt (for bow scarf) from goodwill. Those 4 pieces cost less than $10.
The gloves were $1.
The artillery of thread was $5 and attached to one of Bob’s old belts.
2 old mismatched socks.
The costume total ended up being about $25.

I will paint the jacket make it look worn and give it texture.

The Queen.
This is more work because there’s more detail to costume.

I still need to finish painting the top of the skirt, but this is it so far.

I bustled the back, this is $2.12 worth of gold material (2 yards).

The top (so far, quite a bit left on it).
I took this $3 gold shirt, and attached the lace to the sleeves. I ripped strips of velvet to create the velvet layered look, and decorated the corset with ribbon, lace, and jewels.

The skirt cost $7, and the top is $25, and my tights were $11.95 from http://www.3wishes.com/
I might be able to finish the top tomorrow and will update as soon as it’s complete. I still need to attach the white collar, the white lace cuffs, and some ribbons, lace and buttons to the sleeves.

Kid costume, debut 1: SHAYE
Shaye’s nickname for the most part is Pudge, and I gave her that nickname because of her insanely adorable and pudgy cheeks.
I knew she’d rock a pig costume like a pro. And seriously, I could not have picked anything more perfect.
I tried it on her to make sure it fits, and I was a bit irritated because the 12-24 months is a little SNUG. She’s not big regardless of her squishy cheeks and insanely adorable rolly thighs. (she’s 24lbs at 18mo and wears an 12-18mo clothes) In hind sight, I should have gotten her the 2T. But she seems comfortable in it, and didn’t try to rip off the hat or hooves.
And when she saw herself in the mirror, she squealed. :)
