Last night my girlfriend, my sister-in-law, Maeve and I went to see Julie & Julia. I wanted to see it for a few reasons.
First, I saw Julie Powell do an interview. It intrigued me for sure, a blogger who cooked her way through a cookbook as therapy.
Second- Julia. My mother worked for a caterer in the 80s and was obsessed with all things cooking, especially Julia Child. She would pop her Julia Child videos into the vhs player in the kitchen and cook along with them, so the movie made me laugh. My mother did the same thing 20 years ago. Oh, and let’s not forget the mother factor! Julie Powell‘s mother thought that the “blogging” was a waste of time, much like MY mother does with me. Nothing inspires you more than a parent’s criticism.
“Why do you do that? Don’t you have better things to do???”
The Julia videos and book(s) are now mine, as you can see to the left.
The movie is really cute, I recommend it to any who loves to cook, blogs, both, or neither.
