How does a lazy mom avoid an obnoxious birthday party? We take a a trip!
Seriously, birthday parties done at home can get terribly expensive, and have moms like me running to the medicine cabinet for a pain pill. Cake, goody bags, decorations, food, games….ugh no thanks.
So this year, I proposed a NEW idea.
“Hey Maeve, why don’t we take you and your bff to the city, and we can stay in a HOTEL?”
At first she thought that would be REALLY cool. Then she realized that would mean, not a lot of presents from friends. Hmm, big decisions. She finally agreed. I hopped onto Hotwire, and found a 4 star hotel for $79! Geesh, if we just went to the movies with 6 kids, I’d be paying WAY more than that!
So we checked into the hotel.
I took the girls to a nice restaurant, where they proceeded to get “kids meal pizzas” and we ordered a cake.
The hotel had a roof top pool so they swam for 3 hours, and then we rented a movie.
In the morning, my mom had them come to the spa she works at for mani’s and pedi’s.
It’s good to be 8.
total cost of the birthday:
hotel: $79 plus tax
dinner and cake: $50 ( I had salad and wine, because I’m smart)
Movie: $10
spa day: FREE!
Brilliant? Yes, I am.
